Giving Back, An Industry Uniting to Attract New Talent
One of the founding principles of The Spa Mart, something that Tori and I both agreed upon, was giving back. Both of us were able to pursue our educational interests with the support provided by others. We were fortunate to have other people believe in us and through the help of not only great mentors, but financial support provided by generous benefactors, we both achieved our goal of becoming first-generation college graduates.
As a spa owner, I was acutely aware of the problem of finding spa professionals to work in our location. With diminishing numbers of spa schools and a growing number of spas and mobile spas, we are experiencing a supply and demand problem. More importantly, we feel like we need to help attract new professionals to our industry by sharing how great it is to be a part of this community and to explain the gainful employment opportunities—spa and wellness is fun, fulfilling and it pays well too. We will provide part of our profits and work with our industry associations and vendor partners to develop an awareness campaign and to provide scholarships to help attract new talent to our industry.
Our scholarship program is a purpose-driven mission to help others succeed. Along the way, people believed in us, which made all the difference in the world. Both co-founders of The Spa Mart received scholarships supporting Teddy and Tori’s efforts to achieve their educational goals and we believe strongly in paying it forward. We want to help recruit new talent into our amazing spa and wellness industry.
It’s time to create a movement! The only way to raise awareness is with all of us working together. With the reduction of beauty and spa schools nationwide, we see the inherent need to magnify the problem of recruiting spa professionals including massage therapists, nail technicians, estheticians and spa managers. Our passion for this industry runs strong and through our outreach campaigns and partnerships with our industry colleagues and friends, we will recruit new talent and show the world how great it is to be a spa professional! We will be donating a percentage of profits to our scholarship program.
Let the movement begin! We are resolute in our commitment to start this movement and it only takes one spark to light the fire.
It’s our pleasure to introduce you to Samantha P., our very first scholarship recipient. Sam is currently enrolled in the esthetics program at Avenue Five Institute in Austin, TX. The daughter of a military veteran and immigrant mother, like many, Sam was struggling with the costs of living expenses and community college—but knew she wanted to help people and make a difference in their lives. A spa gift card and a facial later, Sam knew she found her calling, but a lack of resources and financial support left her wondering how she could make it happen. We heard Sam’s story and provided her with a full scholarship—we will keep tracking Sam’s progress. We are so proud of her!
